Academic Excellence

The school's curriculum provides students with opportunities across a broad range of academic disciplines and allows them to develop educational pathways based upon their abilities, interests, and future goals.

The school's 2026–2027 Curriculum Guide reflects an emphasis on preparing students for college, careers, technical education, and other postsecondary opportunities. Honesdale High School also participates in career and technical education programming supported through the Carl D. Perkins program. Vocational offerings include areas such as health professions, carpentry, agriculture, and career preparation.

Academic achievement is an important part of the Honesdale High School tradition. Students are regularly recognized for outstanding performance in the classroom as well as their involvement in extracurricular and community activities.

Technology and Preparing for the Future

Technology plays an important role in the educational experience at Honesdale High School. Today's graduates enter a world in which technology, communication, collaboration, creativity, and digital literacy are essential skills.

Through the Wayne Highlands School District's continued investment in technology and digital resources, students have opportunities to use modern tools throughout their education. Technology supports classroom instruction while helping students become responsible, confident, and capable users of the digital resources they will encounter in college, careers, and everyday life.

Performing Arts and Music

The performing arts are an important part of student life at Honesdale High School. Through music, theatre, and performance, students have opportunities to develop their talents, build confidence, work collaboratively, and share their creativity with the community.

The Honesdale Performing Arts Center serves as a home for many of these experiences. Honesdale High School has presented major musical productions including Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Grease, Chicago: Teen Edition, The Wizard of Oz, Matilda the Musical, and, most recently, Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock – The Musical in February 2026.

The school's music program also provides students with opportunities in band and vocal music, with Honesdale High School musicians earning recognition through Pennsylvania Music Educators Association festivals and All-State ensembles. In 2026, the District celebrated Honesdale High School students who earned All-State Band and All-State Choir recognition.

These programs demonstrate that the arts are more than performances. They teach students discipline, teamwork, creativity, communication, responsibility, and the confidence to stand before an audience and share their talents.

Athletics and School Spirit

Athletics are another important part of the Honesdale High School experience. Student-athletes have opportunities to represent their school while learning lessons in teamwork, leadership, perseverance, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility.

Honesdale teams and student-athletes have a tradition of achievement, including championship accomplishments in programs such as baseball and wrestling. Athletic events also bring students, families, alumni, and community members together and contribute to the strong sense of pride associated with Honesdale High School.

Student Leadership and Activities

Education at Honesdale High School extends well beyond academics. Students can become involved in clubs, organizations, academic competitions, service activities, athletics, performing arts, and leadership opportunities.

Past student recognitions illustrate the variety of experiences available, including participation in National Honor Society, Student Council, Science Olympiad, Envirothon, Robotics, music ensembles, theatre, athletics, and community service.

These opportunities allow students to discover interests and talents that may ultimately influence their college choices, careers, and lifelong passions.

A School Connected to Its Community

Honesdale High School is more than a place where students attend classes. It is an important part of the greater Honesdale and Wayne County community.

Teachers, administrators, support staff, families, local organizations, businesses, alumni, and community members all contribute to the educational experience. While educational methods and technology continue to evolve, the fundamental purpose of the school remains constant: provide students with the knowledge, experiences, relationships, and opportunities necessary to succeed.

From the first day of freshman year to the moment seniors cross the stage at graduation, Honesdale High School represents the culmination of the Wayne Highlands educational experience.

Its classrooms encourage students to learn.
Its athletic programs challenge them to compete.
