Act 44 requires school entities to notify parents, guardians, and school employees when an incident involving the possession of a weapon occurs and the possession constitutes a violation of applicable state law or the school entity's weapons policy. In accordance with Pennsylvania Act 44, the Wayne Highlands School District is notifying families of an incident involving the possession of a weapon on school property. It is essential to note that at no time was there a threat of any sort.
Importantly, an Act 44 notification does not mean that a threat was made or that anyone was in danger. The law requires notification based upon the qualifying possession of a weapon, regardless of whether the circumstances were determined to be threatening. After learning the detail of the circumstance, the incident was promptly addressed by school administration. There is no ongoing concern related to the school community specific to this incident.
The District takes all matters involving weapons seriously and remains committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff.
Thank you for your continued support.
