Trio honored by board
Congratulations to outstanding Honesdale High School seniors William Howell, Megan O’Neill and Michael Montambault (left to right) for their dedicated commitment to their studies.
The Wayne Highlands School District Board of Directors recognized the efforts of three outstanding seniors at their reorganizational meeting held Tuesday evening.
William Howell is the son of Alfred and Patti Howell of Honesdale.
A prominent scholar, Howell is among the top five percent of his class, had been recognized on the Honor Roll and is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS).
Howell has flexed his academic muscles as a participant in the American Mathematics Contest, the Marywood Math Contest, and the Envirothon.
He is also a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Interact clubs at Honesdale High School (HHS).
A burgeoning leader, Howell has represented the HHS student body as a member-atlarge of the Student Council.
Athletically, Howell has excelled on the HHS soccer track, unified track and field, and boys basketball teams.
In soccer, Howell achieved the rank of captain and earned his varsity letter, the Varsity Team Offensive Award, and the Coaches Award.
Howell also earned his varsity letter in track and was named the Rookie of the Year.
As a basketball player on the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams, Howell earned a letter for his efforts.
Devout in faith as well as athletic ability, Howell is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Looking ahead, he plans to attend college and study physical therapy.
Next recognized alphabetically, Michael Montambault is the son of David and Michelle Montambault of Berlin Township.
Likewise gifted scholastically, Montambault also ranks among the top five percent of the senior class, has been recognized on the Honor Roll and is a member of the NHS.
He has also participated in the Marywood Math Contest and the American Mathematics Contest, as well as demonstrated his leadership qualities in the Yale University National Youth Leadership Forum: Business Innovation.
He has similarly demonstrated his leadership qualities at the Junior Leadership Northern Poconos program and at the FBLA regional and state competitions.
At FBLA Regional, Montambault placed third in Securities and Investments.
Similarly gifted athletically, Montambault has been a member of the HHS freshman football team, freshman basketball team, and the junior varsity basketball team, where he earned the Most Improved Junior Varsity Award.
Embracing the next phase of his life, Montambault aims to attend a four-year university and major in either economics or business administration.
Third recognized, Megan O’Neill is the daughter of William and Kelly O’Neill of Bethany.
She too ranks among the top five percent of her class, garnering a spot on the Honor Roll and a seat in the NHS, in the latter of which she’s served as Blood Drive Committee Chair.
O’Neill has demonstrated her academic prowess in the American Mathematics Contest, the Envirothon and the Science Olympiad.
In the last of these, she was the 2015/2016 Regional and State winner.
O’Neill is a member of the Interact Club and HOSA, and serves her student body as a Student Council homeroom representative.
Athletically, O’Neill has been a member of the HHS field hockey and track and field teams.
She was named the Best Offensive Junior Varsity Player on the field hockey team and lettered in varsity track and field.
Post graduation, O’Neill plans to pursue her doctorate of physical therapy at university while continuing to coach gymnastics and be involved at her chosen school.
