Due to a mechanical issue (well pump) in the school building, the DAMASCUS AREA SCHOOL will operate on a Flexible Instruction Day (FID – virtual learning) on Friday, February 13, 2026.
Damascus students should not report to school on this day. Instead, they will complete their instructional activities and assignments from home via remote learning. It is anticipated that the mechanical issue will be resolved and school will resume normal procedures on Tuesday - February 17, 2026, following the holiday weekend.
This communication DOES NOT impact any other Wayne Highlands school. All schools, other than Damascus, will operate normally (to include transportation), on Friday - February 13, 2026.
Student Coordinates Fundraiser to Honor Mother

A group of students from Wayne Highlnds Middle School, headed by eighth grader Kallie Lazaro, created 65 ceramic rose magnets to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. Inspired by her mother’s strength and perseverance, Kallie wanted to do something to honor her mother who is struggling with Cystic Fibrosis.
Kallie also wanted to educated the school community about the disorder, while raising money for Cystic Fibrosis. Kallie and her art teacher, Kathryn Beisel, decided the annual art show would be the perfect place to spotlight not only Kallie’s philanthropic nature but her artistic ability.
To begin the process, Kallie contacted the local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Bethlehem, PA. The foundation compiled information for Kallie to share with the public, and “Breathe” bracelets to jumpstart her fundraiser.
Then Kallie and twenty of her peers began working diligently on the fundraising process. The students designed and created ceramic “Breathe” magnets. The students sold the handmade magnets in conjunction with the school’s Annual Middle School Art Show and Band Concert for a reasonable donation. Kallie and the students were very successful in raising $388.50. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help families enduring it.
“I want to do everything I can to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.I would love for my mother to be able to live a normal life. She is unable to do so many things,” said Kallie.
